Master Books®, a division of New Leaf Publishing Group, announces the winners of the 2011 $3000 college scholarship. Junior and senior high school students submitted essays answering the following questions: What is the connection between Darwin’s theory of evolution and racism? How does the Biblical worldview of racism differ? Students were supplied with a free chapter of the book, One Race One Blood by Ken Ham and A. Charles Ware which shows that the premise of Darwinian evolution is deeply rooted in the worst racist ideology since its inception. Ian Lott, a 4.0 senior of Halifax, Virginia submitted the outstanding essay titled: Social Darwinism and Evolution: Answers in the Bible.
Lott remarks that “unfortunately, both those who oppose Christianity and those who thought themselves Christian have used the Bible incorrectly to promote racism. One major theme that critics commonly use is how the Bible never specifically condemns slavery.” Lott’s essay goes on show that the Bible does not speak out against slavery but does speak out against racial separation. Students were also given the opportunity to create a unique expression of their essay answer in the form of a graphic, video, website, or social media conversation. Stephen Peterson won with the creation of http://www.teenapologetics.org/. He will receive a new Kindle complete with five additional apologetic titles by Master Books®.
Tim Dudley, the president of New Leaf Publishing Group, initiated the annual Master Books® scholarship program in 2008. This investment is evidence of the company’s focus on teaching and defending the authority of the Bible to this generation so that it lives on in the next. In this time of unprecedented cultural neglect of the Word of God, families all over the world are learning to trust the inerrancy of the Bible as they discover creation science, apologetic, church leadership resources, and Christian education resources available from the New Leaf team.
