Evolution Sunday ? We Think Not!

Creation Sunday: February 11, 2015

Charles Darwin—born more than two-hundred years ago on February 12th 1809… and yet the ripple effect of his poisonous ideas is still being felt across the globe. 2015 marks the tenth anniversary of  the institution of Evolution Sunday, an annual event celebrated on the Sunday closest to Darwin’s birthday.  The event was created by Michael Zimmerman who saw it as a way to convince Christians that Evolution didn’t have to conflict with Christianity—that the two could coexist in peace.

Just one year later, in 2006, a website went up with an open letter stating as much, prompting pastors, priests, and other clergy members to sign their names and show their agreement. To date, more than twelve thousand have signed the agreement.

The problem in all of this is that Zimmerman was an atheist.  One can safely conclude that maintaining the solid foundation of  Christian faith was never his intention. Continue Reading →

The Source of My Passion

I likebible 1 the Bible.  That might seem like an obvious thing to say, especially in a Christian newsletter, but I believe it bears saying because, let’s face it, there’s a lot in the Bible that’s unlikable.

Original sin, for one thing, sort of bums me out.  Adam and Eve had everything they could ever need or want, but they threw it away because – incredibly – they believed God was holding out on them.

Then there’s the Flood.  Civilizations wiped out, thousands upon thousands of people killed, and why?  Because mankind was so ruthlessly violent, God felt the need to start over. And that’s just the first six chapters.

There’s the rape of Tamar, Jacob’s little trick with his father-in-law’s sheep, the Plagues of Egypt, the lukewarm ineptitude of the Judges, the Exile to Babylon . . . the list goes on and on, right up until God Himself dies, crucified by the very people He created. But, thank God, He didn’t stop there. Continue Reading →

Introducing a Biblical Worldview Math Curriculum

frustrating_mathMath seems to have a negative connotation for many. It has the reputation of being a subject to survive—a painful exercise in manipulating numbers to no apparent purpose.

Yet math is more than numbers on a piece of paper! It’s a tool given to us by God to describe His creation! In fact, the very reason we can work with numbers abstractly and then apply them to a concrete situation is because the biblical, faithful Creator God is sustaining all things in a reliable manner.

Math doesn’t have to be a dry, meaningless exercise. Instead, it can be an exciting journey of discovery—a journey that points students to the Creator.

I’m excited to be partnering with Master Books on Principles of Mathematics: Biblical Worldview Curriculum, a junior high math curriculum that teaches math concepts in connection with history, science, and real-life applications, giving students a new appreciation for math and how it points to the Creator.

Watch for more details soon. In the meantime, feel free to check out the overview video below that shows just a glimpse of how math can be seen and taught biblically.

We’d cherish your prayers as we work to finish up the curriculum…and we’d love to hear your comments in the field below!

By God’s Grace,

Katherine Loop

Forget the Chicken and the Egg

chickenI once wrote “Forget the chicken and the egg–which came first, the air or the lungs, the heart or the blood…male or the female, water or thirst, food or the stomach? Stop the confusion. Read Genesis again for the first time?” Frankten Goethe (presumably a believer in Darwinian evolution) stepped up to the plate and answered each question, ending with “science has evidence for its answers.”

Frankten believed that air came first. But if the air came first, where did it come from, and how was it that it had just the right amount of oxygen to sustain human life? While human lungs were evolving how did we breathe? Why did they evolve if life was already sustained without them?

Next he believed that our incredibly complex blood formed before the heart. Why did it do that, and how did it get around the body if there was no heart to pump it?

Frankten believed that male and female (for some reason) evolved at the same time, over time. They had to because they needed each other to survive, as did each of the millions of species, each of which have male and female. Why and how did evolution cause these millions of different species to evolve as male and female, each with different (but corresponding) reproductive parts? How did they reproduce while these parts were supposedly evolving?

waterNext he believed that water evolved before thirst. We know that we can’t live without water, so how did we (and the millions of animals) survive if we had no thirst?

Frankten also believed that food evolved before the stomach. So eggs, wheat, beef, cabbage, potatoes, tomatoes, apples, and a million and one other amazing foods evolved but we couldn’t eat anything because the stomach hadn’t evolved. Nor had our teeth, tongue, taste buds, epiglottis, esophagus, digestive juices, as well as small and large intestines.

I am amazed at how such an unthinking and unthinkable unproven and unprovable theory has survived for all these years, and that some have the gall to believe that it’s even slightly scientific.

Genesis simply and plainly tells us that all creation was brought into being at once by the hand of Almighty God. And that’s not a pleasant thought for sin-loving sinners.

Because of Faith (Part 2)

faithitWhat is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope
for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.
So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith.
Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there
is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Hebrews 11:1, 6 tlb

Your faith in God today is your lifeline to His heartbeat. Faith is the hand that reaches up and takes hold of God’s promises and gathers in the spiritual treasures that are found in Christ. Faith sees the sunshine of God’s face, even when there are dark clouds all around.

It is quite an experience the first time someone flies in a plane. The sky may be covered with dark clouds, but soon after takeoff, the plane breaks through the clouds. The passenger quickly discovers
that the sky is still blue and the sun is still shining, even though things look quite differently below.

What things are possible for you today through faith? All things are possible, because your faith is in the God who knows no impossibilities.

  • When the things that you are experiencing don’t make sense, faith says, “God knows what He is doing.”
  • When your resources don’t match your need, faith says, “God is my
    provider.”
  • When you are fearful to take the next step, faith says, “God will not
    fail me.”
  • When you’re not sure what to do next, faith says, “God will guide me.”
  • When you are in a situation that seems impossible, faith says,
“Nothing is too hard for the Lord.”

When I was a new Christian living in Southern California, I applied to a Bible school in the Midwest. The school accepted my application. Along with the application, the school sent me the date that they wanted me to arrive and start my classes. I bought a plane ticket and started getting things in order. The night before my flight, the local weather forecast reported that the area would be covered with thick fog in the morning. My flight was scheduled to leave early that morning. Instead of worrying about it, I got on my
knees and asked the Lord to lift the fog. By faith, I knew that God would answer that prayer. I told the person who was taking me to the airport that God would lift the fog, and that my flight would not be canceled. The next morning we headed out to the airport under clear skies.

Where will your faith journey with God lead you today? Whatever the step may be, wherever the path may lead, you can be certain that your obedience of faith will always bring you into His best.
