Living Words in Action

words4As a reader and a book editor, I simply love words – their meanings, how they are said, even their connections to one another. How they change throughout history is also very interesting! It can be fun to trace the history, or etymology, of a word and its usage. Words are “living,” altering over time or cultural references and even with slang usage.

A few years ago we wrapped up a project called the Christian Reading Companion for 50 Classics. One of my favorite features of the book is its focus on vocabulary development. throughout the book, a word will be highlighted in a classical literary excerpt giving you the opportunity to try to determine the possible meaning, and then later find out what it means in context. Jesus Unmasked

Proof: The Bible is Supernatural

If someone claimed that the Declaration of Independence is a brilliant document, all we need to do is study the Declaration itself to draw our own conclusion. Similarly, all we need to do is read the pages of the Bible to determine if it is indeed supernatural.

The New Testament claims that the Old Testament is loaded with fuzzy pictures that are actually pictures of Jesus Christ.

  • jesus unmaskedJesus is the Ark
  • Jesus is the Door
  • Jesus is the Water
  • Jesus is the Bread
  • Jesus is the Bronze Serpent
  • Jesus is Tabernacle
  • Jesus is the Sabbath
  • Jesus is 7 Festivals
  • Jesus is the I AM

Jesus Unmasked reveals over thirty Old Testament stories that point to Jesus Christ Himself. What were once shadowy pictures of redemption in the Old Testament became a Technicolor reality when Jesus Christ was born.Prepare to meet Jesus in the Old Testament. Prepare to take a whirlwind tour through the Bible and see the perfect, brilliant harmony that proves, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that God wrote a book. Only God could write one story through dozens of authors over thousands of years about one man without a single contradiction. Jesus Unmasked proves that God wrote a book and you can stake your eternity on it.

The Darwin Effect

Darwin effect coverDr. Miklos Nyiszli, an imprisoned doctor in the Auschwitz camp, wrote that Nazi doctors hoped studying twins would solve the problem of faster reproduction of superior races. Nazis hoped to have each German mother bear as many twins as possible. What Darwin influenced went far beyond the Nazi death camps:

  • Shocking political, social, and scientific legacies of Darwin and his family
  • Disturbing disclosure of how over 45 million Christians were killed in the 20th century because of their faith
  • Revealing and layman-friendly presentation.

This book is the result of 30 years of research and study carefully documenting the common destructive threads that tie some of history’s most murderous dictators, uncaring capitalists, and aggressive social activists to the flawed concepts of Charles Darwin in an effort to change the world — and how they succeeded. The extermination of races considered “lower” than others, the profound lack of empathy for less-advanced cultures, the corrupted atheistic justifications for taking the lives of millions — all done to advance the agendas of social Darwinism at work in the world today. More than mere theoretical discussions, we have seen the horrifying evidence of the practical results when applying these destructive and misleading concepts to society in the last 100 years!

Building the Masterpiece – Giants: Legends & Lore of Goliaths

Do you ever wonder just what happens during the creation of some of your favorite books?  It recently occurred to us at Master Books that you might like to know what we’re doing along the way as we design engaging new books so I thought I’d share a little sneak peek into the process with the latest in the Legends and Lore series, Giants: Legends & Lore of Goliaths.  We started with an incredible idea which author Charles Martin brought to life in writing.  Then the illustrating begins!  Bill Looney stepped up for us yet again and, as illustrator of the first two books in this Series, Dragons: Legends & Lore of Dinosaursand The Flood of Noah, Legends & Lore of Survival, we could be confident in quality that will entertain kids and parents alike. Once these pieces are in place our talented design team puts all of the pieces together designing a cool cover, and in this case, interactive elements that will make this yet another kids’ favorite.  Let me introduce you to this fun new project:

All around the world there are ancient stories of giants. Most people would look at these stories and think, “Wow, what imaginations these people had!” But that doesn’t explain why the stories are so alike, or why the same ideas keep coming up over and over again. But the Bible tells us in Genesis 11 that at one time everyone spoke one language and had one culture. Then, shortly after the Flood, mankind grew prideful and self-worshiping, and God sent them away from each other. He changed their languages, and sent them in different directions (Genesis 10 gives us an idea of which people went where). Continue Reading →

The Henry Morris Study Bible and Free Book Friday

The Henry Morris Study Bible has been reviewed by bloggers who specifically seek to defend the Bible. We are gathering quotes from their recent reviews to give you a flavor of what you can expect from this four pound wealth of information.

“The Henry Morris Study Bible is full of annotations to help explain the Bible’s most difficult passages, resolve its alleged contradictions, points out the evidence of its divine origin, confirm its historical accuracy, note its remarkable anticipations of modern science, demonstrate its fulfilled prophecies and in general remove any doubt about the inerrancy, authority and its ability to withstand the attacks of the secular world.” Dave Jenkins

“One of the most distinct features is ‘an uncompromising commitment to literal biblical creationism.”  Melissa Mason

“This is an apologetics study Bible that seeks to defend the Christian faith from a ‘literal biblical creationist’ viewpoint that particularly believes three things: (1) the 6 days of creation in Genesis 1 are 24 hr periods, (2) the historical account of the flood in Genesis 7-8 is accurate and speaks of a worldwide flood and (3) the earth is young with an age of 6-10 thousand years.” Craig Hurst

“The publisher took an interesting approach to textual notes and cross references. They appear almost inline with the text, but not in a distracting way. It is actually quite nice to see this part of the format and how helpful it should be.” Greg Dietrich

“The Henry Morris Study Bible will be helpful to new or seasoned believers to learn from a man who set the terms of the debate on evolution during the twentieth century.” Dave Jenkins

“No matter how many Bibles you have, this one is truly different. Aside from the excellent verse-by-verse study notes, it contains strong, persuasive information about the Bible’s authority, divine origin, historical accuracy and more.” Lyn Smith

For Free Book Friday we invite you to tell us why you feel the Henry Morris Study Bible is an important tool for your church, family, or our culture.
